Ann Marie Chao's story is a rich tapestry of dedication, adventure, and a profound love for sports that began in the vibrant landscapes of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and Syracuse, New York. From her early days, Ann Marie was not just participating in sports; she was living them. Her childhood was adorned with the thrill of soccer, lacrosse, competitive swimming, track and field, basketball, and volleyball, painting the picture of a life built on the foundation of athleticism and adventure.

Her journey of leadership and coaching ignited at Camp Near Wilderness in Upstate New York, where she first embraced the role of a lifeguard. Her path led her to Camp Lenox in Western Massachusetts, where she flourished as a Unit Leader, Certified High Ropes Course Instructor, and a mentor in soccer and basketball. Her commitment to nurturing young talents continued at Camp Chinqueka in Connecticut, further solidifying her role as a beacon for aspiring athletes.

Ann Marie's spirit of resilience and determination was further tested and proven in the United States Navy, where she was stationed in San Diego. Here, she not only served her country with honor but also continued to challenge and surpass the boundaries set before her on the soccer fields and basketball courts, demonstrating the true strength and versatility of a female athlete.

Her move to North Carolina marked a new chapter of community and family. Ann Marie quickly became a pivotal figure in local soccer, coaching her nieces and later contributing her expertise to NZone Sports, where she honed her skills under the guidance of our current General Manager. Her coaching credentials are as impressive as her background, with certifications from NFHS, U.S. Soccer Grassroots, First Aid, and CPR, highlighting her dedication to safety, excellence, and the holistic development of young athletes.

In 2023, Ann Marie took her passion for coaching to Grays Creek High School, where she led the Girls Junior Varsity team, showcasing her ability to inspire, lead, and develop the potential within each player. Born in Herleen, Netherlands, Edwin Arocho's journey led him to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he showcased his athletic prowess throughout his youth, excelling as an all-season athlete. Following high school, he pursued higher education at Georgia Military College. There, his passion for sports persisted as he took to the field with the soccer team and raced with the cross country team.

Edwin's drive for service and community extended beyond sports when he enlisted in the US Army after earning his Associate's degree. During his tenure at Fort Bragg, NC, not only did he represent his brigade in multiple soccer tournaments, but he also emerged as a two-time Fort Bragg wrestling champion. Simultaneously, he continued to expand his academic horizons at the University of Georgia.

After his honorable service in the Army, Edwin transitioned to civilian life, channeling his expertise in wrestling into a coaching role at Pine Forest High School. His dedication to community service shines brightly through his countless volunteer hours with Nzone sports, where he mentors young soccer enthusiasts.

At the tender age of nine, Joshua's family moved to Spain, where he immersed himself in the rich football culture that pulses through the country's veins. It was there that Joshua honed his skills, playing for Herencia CF before earning transfers to the esteemed Alcázar CF and, ultimately, the prestigious Real Madrid academy.

His passion for soccer balanced elegantly with his commitment to service, as Joshua has proudly worn the uniform of the United States military for 15 years. His dedication to both his country and the beautiful game culminated in 2018 when he attended the All Army Soccer Camp—an honor reserved for those who exemplify excellence on and off the field.

Off the field, Joshua is a devoted father to his son, Joshua Jr., instilling in him the values of dedication, passion, and perseverance that have defined his own life. His story is one of commitment, not just to the sport he loves but to the service of his nation and the nurturing of the next generation.

As Joshua continues his soccer and military career, he stands as a testament to the strength that can be found at the intersection of sports and service.

We're thrilled to introduce our new goalkeeper coach, who brings a wealth of experience both from the sidelines and the field. With two successful seasons coaching at St. Andrew’s University, he has proven his coaching prowess by mentoring the goalkeeper who was named the tournament's top goalkeeper in the 2023 season for the AAC in NAIA. His extensive background includes 12 years of competitive play in the US collegiate system and in Venezuela, where he has achieved numerous accolades:

• SAC Regular Season Champion in 2021
• NCCAA Regional Division 1 Champion
• Participant in the NCCAA National Tournament
• Twice runner-up in Venezuela's National Tournament
• Six-time Champion of the State Tournament in Carabobo, Venezuela
• Three-time recipient of the Best Goalkeeper award in the Carabobo State Tournament, Venezuela

His impressive track record and deep understanding of the game make him an invaluable asset to our coaching staff and a mentor to our goalkeepers, guiding them towards excellence both on and off the field.

Rodrigo Byrnes stands as a testament to a life enriched by football, with roots deeply embedded in the sport's rich legacy. His journey began in the nurturing grounds of Sport Boys in Peru, where the foundation of his passion for football was laid. His skills and dedication soon elevated him to the reserves of Atlante in Mexico's Primera A, followed by a stint with the Pumas reserves, where he continued to hone his craft.

The fervor for football led Rodrigo to the fast-paced world of futsal, playing for Centro Naval in Peru's second division and later ascending to the first professional division with San Martín. His prowess on the futsal court was further recognized when he played for JAP, leading the team to a national championship in Peru.

Transitioning from player to mentor, Rodrigo has been shaping the future of football in North Carolina. He has imparted his knowledge and experience as a coach for Triángulo United and Hornet Futsal, and as an assistant coach for Tobacco RD in the USL2.

Rodrigo's pedigree in football is unparalleled, with his grandfather, Jorge “El Comanche” Labarthe, presiding over Sport Boys in Peru's top division. His uncle, Ernesto “El Chino” Labarthe, has graced the professional fields in Peru, Chile, and Mexico, including representing Peru in the 1978 World Cup. Continuing the family tradition, his cousin, Gianfranco “El Chinito” Labarthe, has left his mark as a professional player in England, Greece, and Peru, notably achieving national championship glory with Universitario de Deportes and competing in the prestigious Copa Libertadores.
